Automation & Controls Intern

M4 Control Systems – Minneapolis, MN or Milwaukee, WI

M4 Control Systems, a control system integrator specializing in automation and control systems within the food and dairy industry, is seeking an Automation & Controls Intern/Co-Op to join our growing team. This temporary full-time role is ideal for students or recent graduates looking to gain hands-on experience in automation engineering. You’ll support real-world automation and controls projects for our customers, with occasional weekend work as needed.

We offer valuable industry experience, mentorship from senior engineers, and opportunities for future growth within M4 Control Systems.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the support and execution of automation and controls projects
  • PLC programming and modifications to support client projects
  • HMI programming and modifications to support client projects
  • Prepare system layouts, detailed drawings, and schematics
  • Interface with project team members to schedule, implement, and track automation projects
  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support the team
  • Conduct yourself in a manner consistent with company values, ethics, and policies


Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Coursework or hands-on experience with PLC and HMI programming
  • Familiarity with ladder logic and Rockwell/Allen Bradley hardware (PowerFlex, Kinetix, ControlLogix, CompactLogix, etc.)
  • Knowledge of software tools such as Visual Studio, SQL, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks Electrical preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings


Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or related field)
  • Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Interest in industrial automation and control systems
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or hold a Permanent Resident Green Card
